PhD positions at INAF-OAPa, in collaboration with University of Palermo

There are 8 PhD positions in Physics/Chemistry at the University of Palermo, see https://www.unipa.it/didattica/dottorati/dottorato-xxxvii/bando-di-accesso-ciclo-37/, item #19 “SCIENZE FISICHE E CHIMICHE (INTERNAZIONALE)”

One of the eight (hereafter the UNIPA/OAPa PhD position) is devoted to Astrophysical topics to be carried out at INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo. The topic of the UNIPA/OAPa PhD position may be one of the following:

  • Developing the optical filters of Athena, the ESA mission for high energy astrophysics (contact point: Marco Barbera, marco.barbera@unipa.it).
  • High-resolution spectroscopic exoplanet atmosphere observations from Earth and synergy with low-resolution space-based observations (contact point: Giusi Micela, giuseppina.micela@inaf.it)
  • Filling the gap between supernovae, their progenitors and their remnant: 3D MHD models and comparisons with observations (contact point: Salvatore Orlando, salvatore.orlando@inaf.it)
  • Multi-wavelength analysis of the stellar population of starburst clusters in the Milky Way (contact point: Mario Guarcello, mario.guarcello@inaf.it)
  • Young Stellar Objects: spectroscopic and photometric studies, preparing the ground for the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time, LSST (contact point: Sara Bonito, rosaria.bonito@inaf.it)
  • Probing the accretion process in young stars by simultaneous UV and X-ray monitoring (contact point: Costanza Argiroffi, costanza.argiroffi@unipa.it)

Candidates are required to submit a research project, and the position will be given on a competitive basis. For the admission process, please see the link above. For scientific information, please email the contact points.
