PhD position to work on Active Galactic Nuclei at Universidad Diego Portales (Santiago de Chile)
opening two positions in my group at UDP to work on accreting supermassive black holes, one for a postdoc (2 years) and the other one for a PhD student. I would be very grateful if you could pass this email along to any qualified candidates you may know. Details on both positions can be found below.
- A 2-year postdoctoral research position. The candidate is expected to have experience in the study of AGN, and familiarity with X-ray data reduction will be considered an asset. A fraction of time will be available for independent research. Deadline: January 30 2020.
- A joint PhD position with the Department of Physics and Astronomy of George Mason University (USA). The student will be expected to spend ~50-60% of her/his time in Chile. Deadline: January 15 2020.
Santiago hosts a large and vibrant scientific community working on AGN, with ~45 scientists distributed in four universities and three institutes (see https://user.puc.rediris.es/fmlurlsvc/?fewReq=:B:JVUzOD0+My9/NDgnOS9gbTQ... ). While at UDP, successful candidates will qualify as members of the Chilean community, and will be eligible for the 10% privileged access to all telescopes in Chile, including ALMA, Gemini South, VLT, Magellan, CTIO, SOAR, La Silla, APEX, and ASTE, as well as to future facilities such as LSST.
