Job offer for a research assistant (m/f/d) with 75% part-time job limited to 28.02.2026 German Salary Scale 13 TV-L FU

Reference code: PhD-VENUS-VEM

Application Deadline: 21.11.2022

This position is intended to lead to a PhD degree. In cooperation with the Institute for Planetary Research of the German Aerospace Center, the FU Berlin is planning to provide a power unit for the "Venus Emissivity Mapper" (VEM) instrument as a contribution to the "Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography" mission, & Spectroscopy” (VERITAS). The main goal of this instrument is to perform spectroscopy to study the surface composition of Venus.

A central goal of the position is to support the preparation for VEM data processing and analysis. Radiative transfer models for data analysis are to be developed. The resulting data which will be gathered on the Venusian atmosphere can also be used to extend an existing coupled 1D chemistry-climate model of Venus. The updated model will be used to advance our understanding of the evolution of the atmosphere of Venus and Venus-like planets.
