The IAC (Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for THREE PhD fellowship in Astrophysics in the framework of the projects:
• MATRYOSHKA- Globular Clusters, the key to understand the evolution of galaxies (PID2024-162088NB-I00) IPs. Anna Ferré Mateu / Michael Beasley.
• Dynamics of the Solar Atmosphere: connectivity, energy transfer and diagnosis (PID2024-156538NB-I00) IPs. Íñigo Arrgui Uribe-Echevarría / Sergio González Manrique.
• Science and Technology for the ARIEL Mission: The IAC Contribution (PID2024-158486OB-C32) IP. Enric Pallé Bago.
The contracts are linked to the training of the successful candidates in the scientific and technical fields, through the promotion and development of activities related to scientific research, technological development, and innovation, with the aim of completing a PhD theses within the framework of one of the projects.
The successful candidates will work at the IAC headquarters in La Laguna, (Tenerife) in a stimulating research environment. They will be expected to join the projects’ research groups and work towards obtaining a PhD.
A maximum of EUR 2,500 in aid is established, which will cover real, necessary and duly documented expenses related to the candidate's incorporation into their position at the IAC, at any of its locations. These expenses must fall into the following categories and have been incurred within the period of 14 days immediately prior to the start date of the contract: (1) Air or boat travel from the person to be recruited to Tenerife or La Palma, as appropriate. The ticket price will be the most economical fare. (2) Accommodation expenses in Tenerife, duly documented by invoice, and living expenses, from the day of arrival to the start date of the contract and in accordance with the maximum allowances for accommodation and living for civil servants, Group II.
No other expenses will be reimbursed. All these expenses must be authorized in advance by email to the interested party, who will be informed in advance of how to access this aid. The IAC is not responsible for any expenses incurred by the interested party that have not been authorized in advance.
Qualifications: To be considered, applicants must have a degree in Physics or Mathematics
The degree must satisfy the admission requirements of the University of La Laguna (ULL) PhD Programme in astrophysics, in which the student must register. The ULL requirements are satisfied by applicants with an MSc, as well as by those students with an Undergraduate Degree who have already obtained at least 300 credits (ETCs) of which at least 60 credits should correspond to an MSc Degree (other ways to fulfil the ULL requirements are possible; see the ULL website for details).
