X-ray Astronomy 2019: Current Challenges and New Frontiers in the Next Decade
SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE
This meeting - fourth in a decadal series of X-ray astronomy conferences held in Bologna - will focus on the contribution of current and past X-ray missions to our knowledge of the hot and energetic Universe, and highlight the results from the ESA and NASA flagships missions XMM-Newton and Chandra in the 20th anniversary of their operation. In the era of multi-messenger and transient astronomy, emphasis will be given to the synergy between observations of cosmic sources in X-rays and other wavelengths and also through gravitational waves. We plan to review the most significant results obtained in recent years and lay out the discovery space offered by future high-energy missions.
The main scientific issues that will be addressed are:
* Multi-messenger and transient astronomy
* Active Galactic Nuclei: accretion physics and evolution across cosmic time
* Compact and diffuse sources in galaxies and in the Galactic Center
* Hot and diffuse baryons
* The cosmic frontier: first black holes and proto-clusters
* Future missions

When creating the INDICO account, please specify in the comments field that the request is for the X-RAY ASTRONOMY 2019 conference.
The account will be created within 24 hours, so we suggest to proceed with this step a few days in advance the proper abstract submission.
When submitting the abstract, please check the "Submission instructions" at the top of the editor window!
The workshop is being jointly organized by INAF OAS (Astrophysics and Space Science Observatory) and by the Physics and Astronomy Department (DIFA) of the University of Bologna, under the auspices of Bologna's Local Authorities.
The conference will be hosted by the newly established Bologna Astrophysics Campus within the CNR research area.
The campus includes:
- INAF-Osservatorio di Astrofisica e Scienza dello Spazio (INAF-OAS).
- Department of Physics and Astronomy (Astrophysics sector) of the University of Bologna (DIFA-UNIBO).
- INAF-Istituto di Radioastronomia (INAF-IRA), hosting the Italian ALMA Regional Center (Italian ARC).
- Cerenkov Telescope Array (CTA) Headquarters.
Welcome cocktail and social dinner will take place in historical locations in the city center of Bologna.
If you need a VISA to travel to Italy, we will be able to provide a letter of invitation for the participation to the conference, upon request.
