Descripción/Description:

We offer one PhD (FPI) fellowship to perform a thesis to study the main drivers in the evolution of galaxies analyzing nearby galaxies with the Metal-THINGS survey.

The predoc student will join the UCM Group of Extragalactic Astrophysics and Astronomical Instrumentation https://guaix.ucm.es/

The student will work with Prof. M. Lara López and Prof. J. Gallego on the framework of the MCIN project "Spanish contribution to the Preliminary Design phase of MOSAIC@ELT (Prep4MOSAIC)”, with reference PID2021-123417OB-i00.

Work plan: The student will develop an original research program based on the connection between fundamental properties derived from the 2D-spectroscopic Integral Field Unit (IFU) data, such as spatially resolved metallicity and Star formation rate. In addition, we will make use of archival data at multiple wavelengths available for these galaxies, including Hubble Space Telescope UV spectroscopy. It is anticipated the student will participate in telescope proposals/observations to European and international facilities. Extreme regions of low metallicity and/or high SFR will be used as local analogs in preparation for the future scientific exploitation of the MOSAIC instrument for the ESO 39m Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).
