Descripción/Description:
The (sub)mm-wave instrumentation group at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC) seeks a highly motivated candidate for a postdoctoral position to research the design and optimization of waveguide manifold multiplexers for use as (sub)mm-wave
astronomical spectrometers with Dr. Tony Mroczkowski.
The successful candidate will also work on the design and optimization of free space and waveguide filters to reduce sources of (sub)mm interference (e.g. from satellite constellation communications).
Their research will contribute to and advance the goals of the 50-meter Atacama Large Aperture Submm Telescope (see atlast-telescope.org), a next-generation concept for a transformative (sub)mm astronomical facility, and will also be appropriate in upgrades of current-generation telescopes.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics, Astrophysics, or a related field is required by the start date of the position.
- The candidate should be highly familiar with microwave engineering and waveguide designs. Candidates with experience in electromagnetic simulations of waveguide filters and filterbanks (e.g. Simulia CST, FEST3D, Mician Microwave) are especially encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency with computer aided design (CAD) such as Solidworks is also highly valued, along with experience in laboratory testing of microwave devices at room and cryogenic
temperatures. - The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
Position overview
- The appointment will be for up to 3 years.
- Application deadline: 15 October 2025.
- Start date: as soon as possible.
Interested candidates should submit the following in a single pdf file:
- A detailed curriculum vitae (CV), including a list of publications.
- A statement of research interests and relevant work to date (up to two pages).
- Names and contact details of 3 referees.
Applications (and informal enquiries) should be sent to Tony Mroczkowski (tonym@ice.csic.es).
Please include the text “ICE-CSIC Postdoc Application - NAME” (where NAME is your name) in the subject line of the email.
