Descripción/Description:

Applications are invited for one Postdoctoral Position in Computational Astrophysics of Galaxy Formation at the University of Seville (Spain) to work with Dr. Jose Oñorbe Bernis.

The selected person will work with Dr. Oñorbe's group on various projects in numerical cosmology and galaxy formation and evolution, with special emphasis on the effect of UV and Lyman-Werner radiation on the formation of the first stars/galaxies using cosmological hydrodynamical simulations. In any case, the person will also have the opportunity to develop their own research projects with access to a wide range of simulation data, simulation tools and computational resources. Applicants with a background in computational astrophysics of galaxy formation are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is likely  to have experience in one or more of: experience in performing and analysing hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation including baryonic physics, code development experience in astrophysical fluid dynamical methods (e.g. smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), grid-based, or variable mesh methods), stellar population synthesis, comparison of baryonic galaxy formation simulations to observations.

The initial appointment will be for 2 years with possible extension subject on satisfactory performance and funding availability. The start date is negotiable but is constrained by the origin of the funds and it should be from June to September 2024. The gross annual salary will be 33.600 Euros, with deductions of up to ~20% for income tax (IRPF) and social security (dependent on the candidate's personal situation). Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics, or a related field. To be considered for the position please send CV including publication list, research statement (up to two pages in length), cover letter and contact information for two references. Review of applications will begin on March 15th 2024 and continue until the position is filled.

If you have any questions, please contact J. Oñorbe (jonorbe@us.es).
