The Computational Astrophysics & Cosmology Group of the Theoretical Physics Department of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid offers

one postdoctoral researcher position.

The purpose of this position is to carry out original research in the field of

computational astrophysics & cosmology

in collaboration with group members Gustavo Yepes, Alexander Knebe, Daniel Ceverino, Weiguang Cui, Violeta Gonzalez-Perez, and Rosa Dominguez-Tenreiro.

The main research areas are

·   Large-Scale Structures & the Cosmic Web:                    CosmoSim data base,

                                                                                               UNITSIM project

  • Simulations of galaxy formation...                                    project CIELO,

...and galaxy clusters                                         The Three Hundred project,

·   Simulations of the early redshift galaxies                        The FirstLight project

·   Constrained Local Universe Simulations:                        CLUES project,

·  Validation of simulations and analysis techniques:         Mocking Astrophysics

·  Artificial Intelligence applications in Simulations and Data Analyses

The candidate is expected to actively join one (or more) of these. The position also includes some light teaching duties in the MSc program of the Department.

The Department of Theoretical Physics – in which the computational astrophysics and cosmology group is embedded – provides a highly vibrant research environment ranging from particle physics, both theoretical and experimental, nuclear physics, galactic & extra-galactic astrophysics and cosmology. More than 50 scientists work on a variety of topics (in addition to about 30 PhD students). The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid is an equal opportunity employer.

The applicant should hold a PhD in astrophysics and have proven experience in the field of cosmological simulations and their analysis.

Review of applications will start on December 1st , 2022 and will continue until the position is filled.

The expected starting date is beginning of 2023. The appointment is for a maximum period of two years with a possible extension depending on the availability of funds.

Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of past research and future plans (max. 3 pages) and provide the names of three referees that can be contacted for a letter of recommendation.
