We offer multiple 4-year PhD positions in Prague, Czech Republic, in the fields of Laboratory Plasma, Nuclear Fusion & Tokamaks, Space Plasma, and Space-related Experiments. The areas of research include both experiments and theory/simulations. The application deadline is January 15, 2026, for positions beginning in the Fall semester of 2026.
PhD thesis research will be conducted at one of the participating institutions in Prague: Charles University (Department of Surface and Plasma Science) and Czech Academy of Sciences (Institute of Physics, Astronomical Institute, Institute of Atmospheric Physics). The PhD degrees are awarded by Charles University. The positions are funded by a combination of government stipends, individual grants, and institutional fellowships. The positions are open to candidates of any nationality.
The minimal overall income of PhD students shall be approximately 1100 EUR per month (net pay). It will be combination of stipend and salary.
Benefits depend on the type of the working contract, but all PhD students receive subsidized meals, the possibility of staying in student dormitories, and free "Czech as a foreign language" classes. There is no tuition fee for PhD students. Prague remains cheaper than other comparable European cities while offering a similar level of comfort and entertainment.
