Descripción/Description:

The extragalactic astronomy group at Observatorio Astronómico Nacional (Observatorio de Madrid) is opening a predoctoral position (FPI contract) within the framework of the research grant "A multi-scale/multi-wavelength view of the gas cycle in galaxies" PID2022-138560NB-I00 (PIs: Santiago García Burillo & Miguel Querejeta Pérez). The position will be funded for a period of four years and the foreseen starting date is early 2024.

Our group is heavily involved in two large international collaborations devoted to study the fueling and feedback of nuclear and star formation activity in two representative samples of galaxies of the local universe: GATOS ("Galaxy Activity Torus and Outflow Survey", https://gatos.myportfolio.com/) and PHANGS ("Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby GalaxieS",  https://sites.google.com/view/phangs/home).

The proposed candidate will study the physical processes regulating the gas cycle in different galaxy populations for a range of spatial scales using high-resolution multi-wavelength observations obtained with state-of-the-art facilities, such as the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), the Northern Extended Millimeter Array (NOEMA), and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

Candidates should have a Master Degree in Physics or Astrophysics. Applicants are requested to send a CV to Santiago García Burillo (s.gburillo@oan.es) or Miguel Querejeta Pérez (m.querejeta@oan.es) before November 10.
