Onsite Manager & Safety Coordinator – LST Project

Role
We are seeking a proactive and safety-driven Onsite Manager & Safety Coordinator to support the Large-Sized Telescope (LST) project in La Palma. This role ensures smooth logistical operations and strict compliance with safety standards during construction, operation, and maintenance activities. You will serve as the key liaison for onsite coordination and the primary safety contact for our collaboration with the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC).
Key Responsibilities
Onsite Logistics & Coordination
- Coordinate technical teams and external companies working on LST activities
- Supervise reception and verification of goods at both sea level and the Observatory (ORM)
- Organise and manage transportation of equipment between sea level and ORM
Safety Management & Compliance
- Lead the LST Safety Committee and all safety-related activities
- Maintain and update safety procedures and documentation
- Enforce safety protocols, oversee emergency preparedness, and manage compliance paperwork.
- Act as official safety liaison with IAC and other regulatory bodies.
- Lead risk evaluation and formal approval for technically sensitive operations.
Operational Support
- Oversee local purchases and ensure efficient use of running expenses.
Who We’re Looking For
- Based in La Palma (or willing to relocate)
- Proficient in Spanish and English
- Background in engineering or equivalent, 3+ years experience in technical coordination, safety management, or logistics.
- Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment and implementation of safety procedures.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and reporting skills.
- Valid driver’s licence.
