The Solar Physics Group at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) invites applications for a 1-year postdoctoral contract with a possible extension of half a year. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr Manuel Luna and Dr Jaume Terradas on the observational study of prominence oscillations using automated techniques based on machine learning and bigdata analysis. The final goal is to understand the evolution of prominence oscillations during the solar cycle and their possible relation with the global evolution of the Sun.

Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Expertise in BigData and/or Machine learning analysis techniques.
  2. Experience in mass processing of solar images and data.
  3. Knowledge of Signal Processing (e.g. Fourier or Wavelet analysis).
  4. Programming expertise in Python/IDL or C/C++ is essential.

Applicants must hold a PhD at the start of the contract in solar physics, plasma physics, applied mathematics, computer science or any topic related to the post's objective.

The position is available for one year, which may be extended by half year according to funding resources. The appointment is expected to begin during the first semester of 2023. The gross salary will be between 35000€ and 40000€, depending on the candidate’s experience.
