Post-doctoral position in Galaxy Formation and Evolution

Centro de Estudios de Física del Cosmos de Aragón (CEFCA)
Fecha limite/Deadline:

The "Centro de Estudios de Física del Cosmos de Aragón" (CEFCA) invites applications for a post-doctoral position starting as soon as possible and no later than January 15th, 2018. The position, with a duration of 6 months, is conceived within the framework of the Project "4D Galaxy Formation and Evolution with the J-PLUS and J-PAS Multi-filter Surveys at the OAJ", which is funded for the 2016-2018 period by the MINECO/FEDER through the project code AYA2015-66211-C2-1-P (P.Is. Javier Cenarro & Carlos López-Sanjuan).

CEFCA is an independent research institute located in Teruel, Spain, that provides an excellent environment at the interface between observational and theoretical astronomy. Current research topics include: large-scale structure of the Universe and cosmological probes, physics of galaxy formation and evolution, and the exploitation of large datasets such as J-PAS, J-PLUS and ALHAMBRA. Additionally, CEFCA develops and operates the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre, which is equipped with world-class survey telescopes.

The applicant will join the Galaxy Formation and Evolution group at CEFCA and will conduct research related with stellar population properties of nearby and distant galaxies, focusing on the implementation of the automatic SED-fitting code MUFFIT in the J-PLUS data flow. The MUFFIT code is devoted to the derivation of stellar population parameters in multi-filter surveys such as ALHAMBRA, J-PLUS and J-PAS, and has been developed by CEFCA.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Physics/Astronomy or equivalent, have expertise in stellar population estimation from multi-band photometric surveys, and a good knowledge of programming in Python.

Salary will be in the range 21.500,00 - 25.000,00 Eur/year (before taxes). It will commensurate with the level of experience of the candidate.

In order to be considered, the applications should include: 1) a CV, 2) a brief statement of research interests, to be submitted via email (Subject: "Ref.0058. Postdoc GAFE4D2017") to, by the closing date.
