Star Formation at Multiple Spatial Scales in the ALMA Era

Observatorio Astronómico Nacional (IGN), Madrid
Fecha limite/Deadline:

We are seeking candidates for one postdoctoral research position in the study of star formation as part of project AYA2016-79006-P. This project aims to make progress in a number of star-formation topics using a combination of radio observations from both single-dish telescopes (e.g., IRAM 30m) and interferometers (NOEMA and ALMA).  Topics to study in the project include molecular-cloud fragmentation, bipolar outflows from protostars, and star formation from cloud to galactic scales, all of them with an emphasis on the connection between multiple spatial scales.  The successful candidate will work on the topic of the project of his/her own choice under the supervision of Mario Tafalla (galactic star formation) or Antonio Usero (extragalactic star formation).  The position is for 2 years with a possible additional year if the project is extended, and the ideal starting date is October 2017, although some flexibility may be possible.  We are seeking candidates with a PhD in astronomy or a similar discipline and experience in the use of radio observations to study star formation in the Galaxy or in external galaxies.  Experience in interferometry is a plus but is not required.

If interested, please send a CV, a brief letter of research interests, and the name of three references who may be contacted about the qualifications of the candidate to either Mario Tafalla ( or Antonio Usero (
