A successful application in astronomy would be held within the Chalmers Astronomy and Astrophysics group. This active and growing group currently has 11 academic staff members. The group contains strong subgroups dedicated to the study of extragalactic star formation, supermassive black holes, galaxy clusters, galaxy formation and evolution, massive star formation, and evolved stars. The group is mainly situated at the site of Onsala Space Observatory (OSO), the Swedish national facility for Radio Astronomy. The Observatory operates telescopes in Sweden, including the local LOFAR station, 20m and 25m telescopes which form part of the EVN/VLBI array, and also is a partner in in the APEX telescope in Chile. OSO hosts the Nordic ALMA Regional Centre (ARC) and represents Sweden as a full member of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Organisation. Within the SKA project OSO has active involvement in both technology development and the development of future SKA science support for the Swedish community.
